Skills That Kill

20) Each Vault Hunter has three action skills to choose from starting at level 3.

21) Vault Hunters can equip one action skill at a time, with the exception of Zane, who has the option to equip a second skill instead of grenades.

22) Zane’s three action skills are Digiclone, Sentinel and Barrier.

– Digiclone makes a digital copy of Zane to confuse and distract enemies, and he can swap places with his Digiclone at any time.

– Sentinel drops a combat drone that can freeze, attack, weaken or bomb enemies.

– Barrier digistructs an energy shield that deflects fire and provides unique bonuses for Zane and his allies.

23) Vault Hunter Amara has the abilities Phaseslam, Phasegrasp and Phasecast.

– Phaseslam is an area-of-effect attack that knocks enemies off the ground

– Phasegrasp summons a giant fist that bursts from the ground and locks the targeted enemy in place for a few seconds.

– Phasecast sends an astral projection of herself, dealing damage in its path.

24) Passive skills, augments and modifiers can also be gained further in the skill tree.

A Tale as Old as Time

25) Like previous games, Claptrap introduces Borderlands 3, now “General Claptrap of the Crimson Raiders.”

26) A new cult called Children of the Vault (CoV) have emerged on Pandora.

27) Lilith and the Crimson Raiders recruit new Vault Hunters to investigate this mysterious group.

28) Borderlands 3’s writing and dialogue are designed to match the irreverent style of previous games.

29) At the beginning of the game, Lilith is looking for a key to lead her to vaults on other planets.

30) Certain parts of the game will have the player fight alongside previous playable characters like Lilith.

31) The cult has a Holy Recruitment Center where a boss named Mouthpiece broadcasts propaganda to Pandora.

32) The Atlas Corporation’s headquarters are on the planet Promethea.

33) Promethea is a futuristic metropolis removed from the wastelands of Pandora.

34) Atlas is under siege by the Maliwan’s Corporation’s private army.

35) Players take on Maliwan’s armed forces with Borderlands 2’s Zer0.

36) The Calypso Twins, Troy and Tyreen, are major enemies in Borderlands 3.

37) Tyreen can siphon life and energy from her victims.

Guns, Guns, Guns

38) Weapons manufacturers include: Tediore, CoV, Dahl, Maliwan, Jakobs, Pangolin, Torgue, Hyperion, Vladof, and Atlas.

39) Some guns will offer multiple firing modes: one Vladof pistol shown shoots semi-automatic bullets, but can be switched to “micro-missiles” that launch from the gun’s under-barrel.

40) Some elemental weapons can switch between multiple elements, like incendiary and cryo.

41) IGN encountered a rocket launcher that fires cheeseburgers.

42) Borderlands 3 features guns with legs, guns that bounce and act like grenades, and guns that split into MIRV-style rockets.

43) Vending machines have returned and let players auto-refill their ammo.

44) CoV manufactured weapons use an overheat mechanic instead of a reload mechanic: one animation shows the Vault Hunter cooling down a CoV gun with a tiny squirt gun.

45) Torque weapons have an alt-fire that’s delayed so players can keep shooting enemies, and those rounds explode when players reload.

46) Familiar weapon tiers: White = Common, Green = Uncommon, Blue = Rare, Purple = Epics, Orange = Legendaries.

47) Legendary weapons are almost outside of the tiering system, and often have unique and completely different mechanics from typical weapons.

48) Players have a better chance of encountering higher-tiered weapons the higher their character’s level is.

49) There’s no way to level up guns that become underpowered as characters level up.

50) Weapon skins and trinkets have been added that can be used across any gun that players pick up.

61 Borderlands 3 Details

Update 6/11: With fresh details from E3 2019, we’ve decided to add 17 new bits of info to our ever-growing list of details we’ve learned about Borderlands 3.

Borderlands 3 Details From E3 2019

62) FL4K’s voice actor is Sungwon Cho, better known as YouTuber ProZD.

63) FL4K can command its pets, telling them to attack specific enemies – and they don’t go away like summons.

64) Borderlands 2’s new DLC, Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary, leads up to the events of Borderlands 3.

65) Moze’s action skills, called “hard points,” are guns she can put on her Iron Bear mech, including a flamethrower, mini-gun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher and more.

66) Moze’s rocket pods can sweep multiple targets, or all of these rockets can be used as a barrage on a single enemy.

67) An ability players can activate allows Moze’s Iron Bear to act on its own for a little while, and if it’s equipped with a machine gun, it can become a makeshift turret.

68) A new planet, Eden 6, is inspired by Louisiana swamps.

69) Eden 6 is filled with marshlands, massive trees and structures made out of wood.

70) El Dragón Jr. is a minor Easter egg character in Borderlands 3, referencing the luchador character El Dragón from Gearbox’s Battleborne – one of the last skins released for Battleborne was a Psycho skin for El Dragón.

71) El Dragón Jr. is an example of a rare spawn, which has a “roughly 20% chance to spawn” in any given game.

72) If a player sees that rare spawn in their game, a mission is dynamically created for somebody in their friends list to go in and kill that enemy.

73) Borderlands 3’s mini-map has a “fog of discovery” that paints the map as players explore, enticing players to search every nook and cranny.

78) There’s an early mission where players have to shoot somebody in their butt as part of a bonus, and the reward weapon players get for doing this is called… the butt plug.

Borderlands 3 E3 2019 Demo Details

79) When people on your friends list sell weapons in Borderlands 3, you can see and buy them from vendors in your own game, regardless of if you’ve ever played co-op with that friend.

80) Rare Spawn enemies have a 20% chance to spawn, but when a friend encounters one in their game, it will dynamically create a mission in your game to take the enemy down.

81) You don’t have to exit the game to invite a friend – just look through your in-game friends list at any time, and invite them to play.

82) Couch co-op splitscreen will return (only two-player splitscreen was demonstrated).

83) You can trade items to friends in the game off-line, meaning they don’t have to actively be playing with you online to make that trade.

85) The demo showed off skills of the third playable character, Moze. Each skill tree has two equipable weapons, but players can choose to use two of the same weapon if they wish.

– Moze’s Demolition Woman skill tree was detailed, which focuses on her Iron Bear mech’s explosive upgrades.

  • One Demolition Woman weapon is the V-35 semi-automatic grenade launcher, the other is the Vanquisher Rocket Pod, which fires a rapid-fire volley of un-targeted rockets.
  • The Stainless Steel Bear skill improves armor and maximum fuel.
  • Torgue Cross-Promotion adds the chance for splash damage to double in size.
  • Means of Destruction adds the chance to gain ammo and grenades with splash damage.
  • Shaped Charge increases V-35’s direct hit damage.

– The Shield of Retribution skill tree is about risk and reward.

  • One weapon for this skill tree is a rail gun with shock damage, and the other is a melee weapon Bear Fist.
  • Hell on Rails converts the rail gun’s electric damage to fire damage.
  • Capacitive Armature chains the railgun’s shock damage between enemies.
  • Corrosive Sabot Round creates a round with a delayed explosion and corrosive damage.
  • Wild Swing delivers random bonus elemental damage to enemies.

– Bottomless Mags is a skill tree that rewards players who don’t stop shooting.

  • It includes the Minigun and Salamander flamethrower weapons.
  • Redistribution allows critical hits to regenerate ammo.
  • Scrappy increases Moze’s handling.
  • Stoke the Embers increases fire damage.
  • Let Off Some Steam deals more damage as heat increases and can let the weapons last longer before overheating
